  • Habit : A floating aquatic plant with glabrous hollow stems, rooting at nodes.
  • Leaves : Elliptic-oblong or linear, cordate or hastate base.
  • Flowers :
    • Pale-purple in axillary cymes, bracts small, Calyx of 5 unequal sepals.
    • Corolla funnel-shaped, large.
    • Stamens 5, pollen spiny, filaments unequal.
    • Ovary 2-celled, ovules 2 in each cell, style slender, stigma bilobed.
  • Fruit : Glabrous, ovoid.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : October-April
  • Significance :
    • Common in moist places.
    • Young shoots of this plant are used as vegetables.
    • The plant is considered a good general tonic.
