About Alysicarpus vaginalis Plant :

  • Habit : A prostrate or suberect, glabrous or sparsely hairy herbs often with radially spreading branches.
  • Leaves : 1 - 4.5 x 0.9 - 3.5 cm, ovate - oblong ornearly orbicular, glabrous above, sparsely hairy beneath.
  • Inflorescence : Racemes
  • Flowers : Purple or violet, in 3 - 7 cm long, terminal and axillary, lax or compact racemes.
  • Fruit : Pods 1.3 - 2.5 cm long, 6 - 8 jointed, reticulately veined, at length glabrous.
  • Seeds : Ellipsoid - oblong, glabrous, brown, smooth.
  • Flowering and Fruiting time : July - December
  • Significance : Generally found as weeds in wastelands.
