About Merremia gangetica Plant :

  • Habit : A prostrate and creepingherb with stems covered with soft hairs.
  • Leaves : Entire, suborbicular or reniform, mucronate at apex, petioles hairy.
  • Inflorescence : Solitary or 2-3 flowered axillary cymes.
  • Flowers :
    • Calyx with outer sepals fimbriate at margins, ovate. Inner sepals subquadrate, divided into two small lobes at apex, fimbriate at margins.
    • Corolla yellow.
    • Ovary glabrous, stigma globose.
  • Fruit : Brown, seeds 2 or 4.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : October - March
  • Significance : The plant is said to be a diuretic, and useful in rheumatism and neuralgia.
