About Cyperus laevigatus Plant :

  • Habit : A glabrous herb, rhizome creeping, stems rounded by imbricate or crowded their bases enclosed by imbricate, shining, chestnut-red scales.
  • Leaves : Short or long.
  • Inflorescence : Spikelets 1-30 in one lateral head; solitary or clustered, straw-coloured.
  • Flowers :
    • Bracts 2, one long, one short. Spikelets ovate, acute, compressed but thick, straw-coloured dotted with brown spots, 12-30-flowered, stalk square dotted with brown spots.
    • Glumes ovate oblong, acute, dotted with brown spots, imbricate.
    • Stamens 3, filaments ligulate, anthers linear-yellow with a red tip.
    • Ovary compressed, style long, stigma 2.
  • Fruit : Nut obovoid.
