About Persicaria glabra Plant :

  • Habit : A tall shrub, slightly branched, procumbent and reddish below, ring at each node.
  • Leaves : Large, lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, gland-dotted, base tapering, petioles often red in young leaves, stipules ochreate, sheathing the stem.
  • Inflorescence : Paniculate racemes.
  • Flowers :
    • Pink, bracteates, bracts ovate.
    • Perianth 4-5 cleft, segments oblong.
    • Stamens 6-8, Ovary superior, styles 2, connate at base.
  • Fruits : Nuts ovoid, biconvex.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : October - March
  • Significance : Generally found growing along the river bank in wet areas.
