About Senna alata Plant :

  • Habit : A perennial shrub.
  • Leaves : Pinnately compound with 8-14 pairs of leaflets.
  • Inflorescence : Large spike-like racemes.
  • Flowers : Golden yellow in colour with fertile stamens 7.
  • Fruit :
    • Pods furnished with a wing down the middle of each valve, flat, with 4 broad crenulate wings.
    • Seeds small and sqaurish.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : September - December
  • Significance :
    • An ornamental plant.
    • The leaves are also known to be used in the treatment of bronchitis and asthama.
