  • Botanical Name : Clerodendrum speciosum Dombrain
  • The name Clerodendrum is from the Greek kleros, chance, and dendron, a tree, and alludes to a native legend that the plants possessed medicinal properties, which were a possible cure for certain ailments. Clerodendrum speciosum is actually a hybrid between C. splendens and C. thomsoniae.

  • Habit : A shrub-vine.
  • Leaves : Square-shaped, opposite, dark glossy ovate leaves.
  • Flower :
    • Bracteate, Long lasting, rosy red to deep crimson bracts and bright red flower clusters.
    • Once each brilliant flower has passed, a rosy red calyx stays on the plant for many months.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : March-May
  • Significance :
    • It is cultivated as an ornamental plant, in particular for its bright red flowers.
    • Excellent grown in containers indoors or outdoors during warm weather.
