Stem : Quadrangular, thickened at and above the nodes and internodes
Leaves : Simple, opposite, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, acute at base, tapering into rounded apex and glabrous and shining with prominent purple veins beneath.
Inflorescence : Terminal or axillary spikes.
Flowers : Irregular, bisexual, sessile, white with pink or purple spots inside and red in the throat and lip.

Significance :
It is useful in asthma, rheumatism and colics of children.
It may have the potential to be the basis for a birth control pill for men.
The leaves are useful in muscle pains, broken or fractured bones, muscle sprains and cuts.
A decoction of the twigs is used as a herbal bath during childbirth.
