About Antigonon leptopus Plant :
Habit : A climbing herb with tuberous roots, climbing by means of axillary stem tendrils which are also flower peduncle modified into tendrils at the apex.
Leaves : Simple, large, alternate, stipulate, ovate, cordate, entire and acute or acuminate, hairy.
Inflorescence : Axillary raceme ending into a tendril. The rachis slender, angled, hairy and bears branched tendrils.
Flowers :
Bracteate, complete, pedicellate, hermaphrodite, actinomorphic, hypogynous, pink, solitary or several at a node.
Perianth made up of 5 tepals, the 3 outer are broadly ovate and cordate but the inner 2 are narrow, polyphyllous, quincuncial and pink.
Stamens 8, arranged in whorls, polyandrous, dithecous, dorsifixed, introrse.
Gynoecium tricarpellary, syncarpous, superior, unilocular, basal placentation, a nectary is located below ovary, style 3, stigmas 3, capitate, kidney - shaped.
Fruit : Nut - achene conical, enclosed in a persistent, stiff perianth.
Flowering and Fruiting time : Throughout the year.
Significance : Cultivated in gardens as a lovely and beautiful climber.
