About Brassica juncea Plant :

  • Habit : Erect, 50-120 cm tall, hispid herbs.
  • Leaves : Radical and cauline, former 10-25 x 4-8 cm, lyrately pinnatifid, cauline ones 8.5-8 x 2-3.5 cm, oblong-lanceolate.
  • Inflorescence : Racemes 10-15 cm long, terminal and axillary.
  • Fruit : 2.5-6 cm long, linear.
  • Seeds : Minutely pitted, rounded, blackish-brown.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : Winter
  • Significance :
    • Its seeds are used in pickling and as a condiment.
    • A cooking oil is extracted from the seeds.
