  • Leaves : Opposite decussate, 4 in whorl, thick lanceolate, acute, base much narrowed into the petiole, decurrent.
  • Inflorescence : Spikes
  • Flowers :
    • Bracteate, bracts elliptic-lanceolate, glandular, hairy.
    • Calyx 5-partite, hairy.
    • Corolla scarlet-orange-yellow, hairy.
    • Stamens 4, didynamous.
    • Ovary 2-celled, ovules 2 in each cell, stigma bifid.
  • Fruit : Capsule 4 seeded.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : June - January
  • Significance : Very common in gardens and also known to be planted around temples.
