About Toona ciliata Plant :

  • Habit : A large, handsome tree.
  • Leaves : Abruptly pinnate, leaflets oblique, long, petioled, ovate lanceolate.
  • Inflorescence : Drooping panicles.
  • Flowers : White, honey-scented. Calyx short, 5-partite, petals 5, broadly elliptic, keeled, stamens 5, disk hairy, orange-coloured, staminodes 0, anthers versatile, ovary hairy, ovoid.
  • Fruit : Capsules oblong, septifragal. Seeds winged.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : February-May        
  • Significance :
    • The wood is valuable for furniture.
    • The flowers yield a dye and the bark is used in medicine for diarrhoea and dysentery.
