Habit :
A shortly rhizomatous perennial sedge with stems thickened at the base.
Leaves :
Linear, shorter than stems.
Inflorescence and Flowers :
1-2 solitary spikelets, bracts very short.
Spikelets narrowly ovate, acute.
Glumes triangular-ovate, acute with pale scarious sides and curved green, shortly excurrent keel. Style smooth.
Fruit :
Nut stipitate-orbicular, terete or somewhat ridged, covered by large warts except on the ridges.
Flowering and Fruiting Time :
June onwards.
