Habit :
A floating aquatic plant with glabrous hollow stems, rooting at nodes.
Leaves :
Elliptic-oblong or linear, cordate or hastate base.
Flowers :
Pale-purple in axillary cymes, bracts small, Calyx of 5 unequal sepals.
Corolla funnel-shaped, large.
Stamens 5, pollen spiny, filaments unequal.
Ovary 2-celled, ovules 2 in each cell, style slender, stigma bilobed.
Fruit :
Glabrous, ovoid.
Flowering and Fruiting Time :
October-April
Significance :
Common in moist places.
Young shoots of this plant are used as vegetables.
The plant is considered a good general tonic.
