About Corchorus capsularis Plant :
Habit :
An annual much-branched herb with glabrous stem and branches.
Leaves :
Lanceolate, acute, serrate, base round or acute, base prolonged into a filiform appendage on each side, stipules filiform, petioles long.
Inflorescence :
Cymose
Flower :
Pedicellate, small yellow, in short cymes of 10-2 pedicels.
Sepals and petals 4-5.
Stamens many, ovary 2-5 celled.
Fruits :
Capsules globose, not beaked, depressed, broader than long, ridged and muricated, 5-valved, valves woody without transverse septa, seeds few, wedge-shaped, smooth, brown.

September
Significance :
It is the well-known Gunny or "Jute" plant grown for its fibre of commerce.
