  • Habit : A very small, much branched, herb.
  • Leaves : Opposite, sessile, oblong, obtuse, spinous, serrate.
  • Inflorescence : Terminal racemes.
  • Flowers :
    • Bracteate, bracts linear.
    • Calyx deeply 5-partite.
    • Corolla light purple or white, bilipped.
    • Lower lip almost as long as upper lip, often unequally 3-lobed, middle lobe larger than other lobes; upper lip ovate; lobe apices rounded.
    • Stamens 2 upper only perfect, the 2 lower staminodes.
    • Ovary 2-celled ovules many, style simple, stigma bilipped.
  • Fruit : Capsule cylindric, many seeded.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : September-November
