  • Habit : A small herb with suckers.
  • Stem : Erect, square-shaped.
  • Leaves : Opposite, oblong lanceolate, coarsely dentate-serrate, dark-green.
  • Inflorescence : Verticillaster
  • Flowers :
    • Flowers borne in slender spikes which are generally continuous, purplish, bracteates, bracts linear to lanceolate.
    • Calyx having sepal cup bell-shaped, subglabrous, teeth triangular-lanceolate.
    • Corolla with petals unequal, tip notched.
    • Ovary brown, glabrous.
  • Fruit : Nutlets brown, ovoid, sparsely glandular.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : July - September
  • Significance : It is mainly cultivated for its aromatic leaves which are used as a condiment and boiled with tea for pleasant taste.
