A small herb with suckers.
Stem :
Erect, square-shaped.
Leaves :
Opposite, oblong lanceolate, coarsely dentate-serrate, dark-green.

Verticillaster
Flowers :
Flowers borne in slender spikes which are generally continuous, purplish, bracteates, bracts linear to lanceolate.
Calyx having sepal cup bell-shaped, subglabrous, teeth triangular-lanceolate.
Corolla with petals unequal, tip notched.
Ovary brown, glabrous.
Fruit :
Nutlets brown, ovoid, sparsely glandular.
Flowering and Fruiting Time :
July - September
Significance :
It is mainly cultivated for its aromatic leaves which are used as a condiment and boiled with tea for pleasant taste.
