About Triumfetta bogotensis Plant :

  • Habit : A woody perennial herbaceous plant with tuberculate stem generally covered with simple or stellate hairs.
  • Leaves : Ovate-lanceolate, hairy, pentcostate, stipulate, stipules linear-lanceolate, acute.
  • Inflorescence : Cymes
  • Flowers :
    • Yellow coloured along with dense hairs.
    • Calyx consist of sepals which are slightly awned at the apex and stellately hairy outside.
    • Corolla made up of onlanceolate petals, hairy at the base.
    • Stamens generally 10 in number, equaling petals.
    • Carpels 4 in number with globose superior ovary, tetralocular, hairy, stigma 4-lobed.
  • Fruit :
    • Capsule, tomentose, hairy.
    • Seeds dark brown in colour.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : August - November
  • Significance :
    • The stem bark is known to be much used for making rope and string.
    • The partially retted fibres can be made into canvas and sailcloth because of its durability in moist conditions.
