About Cyperus difformis Plant :

  • Habit : A glabrous annual sedge with root fibrous and stems tufted, weak, triquetrous towards the top.
  • Leaves : Few, usually shorter than the stem, linear, acuminate, obscurely nerved.
  • Inflorescence and Flowers :
    • Spikes in a simple or compound umbel or contracted into a head.
    • Spikelets many in dense heads, dusky or brown, oblong, obtuse, 10-30 flowered.
    • Glumes closely imbricate, obovate-oblong, obtuse, concave, 3-nerved.
    • Stamen 1.
    • Style much shorter than the nut.
    • Stigmas 3, linear, short.
  • Fruit : Nut ellipsoid, obtusely trigonous, rounded and apiculate at the apex.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : August - October
