About Cyperus haspan Plant :

  • Habit : A small perennial fibrous herb with creeping rhizomes which are clothed with ovate triangular scales, giving off solitary or tufted trigonous stems.
  • Leaves : Shorter than stem, acute, erect, sheaths inflated.
  • Inflorescence : Flowers in simple or compound umbels of 4-12 unequal rays.
  • Flowers : Bracts 2-3, variable, spikelets linear, acute, flat, 13-40 flowered, pale or brown, glumes ovate-oblong, brown. Stamens 2 or 3, anthers linear-oblong, style longer than the nut, stigmas 3.
  • Fruit : Nuts 0.05 cm long, globoselyobovoid, rounded and shortly apiculate at the apex.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : October-November
  • Significance : Given as fodder to horses and cattle.
