About Flueggea leucopyrus Plant :

  • Habit : A large bush with angular branches, leafy and terminating in sharp spines.
  • Leaves : Small, obovate, obcordate.
  • Inflorescence : Axillary clusters from small bracts.
  • Flowers :
    • Male flowers with sepals 5, obovate, concave, stamens 4-5, petals absent, disk of 3-5 claws alternating with stamens, rudimentary ovary present, trifid.
    • Female flowers 1-5, ovary 3 celled, style 3, bifid.
  • Fruit : Capsule globose, white.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : April - May
  • Significance :
    • The fruits are locally eaten.
    • The leaves made into a paste and mixed with tobacco are used to destroy worms in the sores.
    • The plant is a fish-poison.
