About Holmskioldia sanguinea Plant :

  • Habit : A small shrub.
  • Leaves : Opposite, ovate, serrate, acuminate.
  • Inflorescence : Terminal panicles or axillary short racemes.
  • Flowers :
    • Calyx petaloid, orbicular or rounded, lower portion bell-shaped, net-veined, reddish or orange in colour, finally turning brown in fruit.
    • Corolla tubular, curved, bilipped, brick-red to orange in colour, lobes 5, short.
    • Stamens 4, didynamous, exserted.
    • Ovary 4-celled, ovule 1 in each cell style slender, stigma bifid.
  • Fruit : Drupe deeply 4-lobed, obovoid, included in the persistent, enlarged calyx.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : November-February
  • Significance : Cultivated in the gardens, quite remarkable for its beautiful flowers.
