About Senna occidentalis Plant :
Habit :
An erect glabrous shrub or undershrub, usually annual.
Leaves :
Paripinnate, leaflets 3-5 pairs, with a globose sessile gland inserted on the petiole below the leaflets.
Inflorescence :
Racemes
Flowers :
Yellow in colour.
Fruit :
Pods 10-14 cm long, glabrous, sutures very clear, the faces dark brown when ripe, the sutures lighter in colour.
Seeds 20-45.
Flowering and Fruiting Time :
Throughout the year.
Significance :
All parts of the plant are used for various medicinal purposes.
The whole plant is purgative and febrifuge.
The leaves are used in skin affections as an external application.
The roots are diuretic.
