About Hardwickia binata Plant :

  • Habit : A tall tree with drooping branches and dark grey, rough bark.
  • Leaves : Alternate, bifoliate, leaflets only 2, sessile, obliquely ovate, obtuse, glabrous.
  • Flowers :
    • Yellowish-green in slender axillary racemes or terminal panicles, pedicellate.
    • Sepals onlong, obtuse, whitish or yellowish green, petaloid.
    • Stamens 10. Ovary oblong, stigma peltate.
  • Fruit : Pods strap-shaped, narrowed at both ends, glabrous.
  • Flowering and Fruiting Time : October-February
  • Significance :
    • The leaves are given as fodder to cattle, which eat them greedily.
    • The wood is extremely durable and makes excellent piles for bridge foundations.
