Opposite, large, base cordate, gland-dotted, intramarginal nerve present.
Inflorescence :
Dense racemes.
Flowers :
Crimson or purple coloured.
Calyx cup-like, teeth 4, suborbicular, glandular.
Stamens many, exserted.
Ovary inferior.
Fruit :
Obovoid pyriform, white berry with the fleshy calyx-teeth at the apex, 1-2 seeded.
Flowering and Fruiting Time :
April - May
Significance :
Cultivated mainly for its edible fruits.
